Bull with Fire

Fiesta de Santo Domingo, Jalón, Spain. August 2007.

In the early hours of the morning, during the fiestas in the villages of eastern Spain, when the party is in full swing, a bull is released into the town with flaming torches clamped to its horns. The spectacle sounds horrifying, but in my experience the bulls seem – astonishingly – to behave no differently with the fire. I have never seen the frantic head shaking or other signs of terror that one might expect.

Hello: I´m also make photos with two old Contax film cameras (28mm & 50 mm +Tmax 400) and after 25 year i enjoy like a child with a new toy. Usually I make pictures of rites in Spain; I wonder how this country gives no importance to this cultural heritage.
Your pictures are great. Congratulations.

Thank you for the kind words about my pictures Jorge.

One of the things I love most about Spain is the astonishing variety of festivals and rites, many of them completely baffling to the outsider! Indeed I have never heard an explanation of many of them, and I’m not sure one exists. Great photographic potential.
